In November of 2016, my good friend Nirav (Nirav Photography) and I set out to create something unique.  Our goal was to bring together like minded artists to discuss current issues in photography, have fun shooting (outside the style of a workshop), and provide a relaxed environment so we could pass along all we have learned as well as our philosophies on art and successfulness.  There were discussions over food, drinks, and even some instrument playing.  It was a chance to get re-energized after a long photography season, or perhaps before the start of one depending on where you lived.  It wasn't a workshop, in the way they've become to be known, which is why we called it a retreat.  It was something special, fresh, and an experience I'll never forget. After having so many good things to say about the first one, we decided to offer this exact same concept again later this year.

 Some key features of this year's retreat:

  1. We will discuss popular (and low-key) issues in the current world of photography.  We won’t be telling you how we attract more clients or telling you to find your own voice over and over again, but we do want to discuss things like the impact social media has on our art, where we think photography is headed, etc.  We will discuss our strengths and weaknesses and are eager to here yours as well.  We believe you'll relate to this more and ultimately help you in the long run.  So get ready to talk. And trust me, even if you consider yourself an introvert, you'll be ok. We are both the same way.  
  2. No time constrictions.  There are no start times and end times other then when to arrive and leave. We are just going to be present and learn and vibe. After having a successful first retreat, we can vouch how wonderful not putting timing or restrictions on things is.
  3. Long chats.  We want to walk along side you in the woods, or on to a beach, and talk.  We want to eat food and talk.  We want to shoot for fun (hopefully in the fog) and talk.  There won't be any models present nor will there be any planned shooting. Whatever happens, happens. We plan on having deep discussions about whatever we can think of and whatever you can think of as well.  We want to discuss being competitive, feeling jealous, artistic slumps, you know, all the bad stuff that comes along with being an artist.  We want to shed light on issues that don't get discussed enough in our little world.
  4. Limited group size.  We are looking for no more than 12 people. This way you each get a ton of 1 on 1 time and exposure to our knowledge, and the group's knowledge.  Think of it as a consortium, we each have many things to share. 

Between Nirav and I, we have over 15 years of experience dealing with a multitude of photography related things.  You name it, we've most likely dealt with it - or someone going has.  We've had our fair share of ups and downs, things we have no issue discussing with anyone.  We've been in tough situations, and wonderful ones as well.  We are willing to strip away our guards and bombard you with everything we know.  It is in our best intention to not sugar coat anything.  While the retreat will feature us, it will also be about you.  Our focus is each of you, as individuals and photographers.  And not just wedding photographers, ANY photographer.  Any artist.  We invite anyone interested in honing their craft to attend.  We want you to learn, laugh, get frustrated, come out of your shell, share, participate, and question.  We want to make an impact.  We hope the topics we discuss will affect you so much more than learning how to “run a business” and “be successful” because let’s be honest here…there’s so much more to happiness than that.

2017 event dates:   11/13-11/15

Location:  The exact house location is still TBD but it will most likely be the same location as last year, as its incredible and we think you'll love it as much as we do.  You will be staying overnight for 2 nights which included in the price.  This will give you a ton of constant exposure to our knowledge, and everyone else's as well.  It will access give you access to food around, cameras to try, and other things as well.  You will arrive the night of 11/13, after dinner.  Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided on 11/14 as well as a lot of learning.  Breakfast will be provided on 11/15 and we will be leaving directly after.

Cost:  We believe in fairness and are not looking to take advantage of anyone in regards to the cost.  The following price includes a 2 night stay at a beautiful private house and any food/drinks available the entire time you are there.  Therefore, we set the price at $645 per person.  If you book it prior to April 16th, it is $595 per person. This includes everything mentioned above.  It does NOT include travel to get to the location.  Think of this as a 2 day event to help you get further in your art, life, and business.
