30 years. Thats how long its been since we got any accumulation of snow in the month of October in these parts. And 30 years ago it was just a small dusting. About a week before Halloween we started to hear rumblings of a winter storm. Normally it ends up being just over freezing and stays rain - especially in October. But as the week went on, the forecast kept changing. 2 days before our scheduled shoot they were calling for 8-12 inches of snow. No one believed it.
My friend Jenny is a local photographer based in Philly. She wanted to set up a family session for peak time of the color change so we set it up for the last weekend in October. Prime time. We would have never guessed that there'd be a significant amount of snow on the ground for the shoot and temperatures around freezing. Very few people get to see snow mixed with the leaves changing color. Even fewer get to have their family photos taken right after it happens. So we kept the shoot as planned.
